Rob van Hoesel photographed al 35 Belgian highways from the passenger seat of his old Opel Corsa in 2006. The Netherlands’ southern neigbour Belgium has always been a transit country for Van Hoesel, being the first ‘abroad’ on the way to France, Spain, Italy or other (holiday) destinations. For this book Van Hoesel made a selection of 1,000 images, structured according to the road numbers of the individual highways, and supplied with additional information.
Rob van Hoesel is a graphic designer focusing on editorial and book design. In 2011 he founded The Eriskay Connection, an independent publisher focusing on contemporary storytelling at the intersection of photography, research and writing. His work is characterised by a conceptual approach, co-authorship, and the importance of meaning and accessibility. Although diverse, his work is always of service to the content and carries a recognisable signature with special attention to typography, visual editing, and technical book production. Van Hoesel has been regularly awarded at Dutch and international book design competitions.
